Saturn V – Apollo with Service Structure. This is a very rare photo of the service structure being transported out to the pad by the crawler. The service structure provided assess to the Saturn V vehicle while it was at the pad.

It is not a Saturn 1B but the very first Saturn 1 Test Article which we designed, built, assembled and tested at NASA-MSFC.

There were 10 Saturn 1 Space Launch Vehicles ( SA-1 through SA 10) successfully flown between October, 1961 and July, 1965.

There were 9 Saturn 1B Space Launch Vehicles successfully flown between February, 1966 and July, 1975. Three of these work horses were used to place the Skylab Astronauts into LEO ( SA -206 in May of 1973 for Skylab SL 2; SA-207 in July of 1973 for Skylab SL 3; and SA-208 in November of 1973 for SL 4). SA-209 was held back for a Rescue Mission ( if needed). The final Saturn 1B launch (SA-210). took place during July of 1975 to support the US/SOVIET Rendvezvous Mission.
